Trevor Bauer rips MLB a new one, and he’s not wrong

Over the past few days reports have surfaced that Major League Baseball is considering expanding the playoffs from 10 teams to 14 teams and including some weird Bachelor style format where the better teams get to pick their opponents. Pretty weird and ridiculous, and it caused this fantastic rant from a very pissed off Trever Bauer.

GO OFF KING!

Bauer has shown in the past that he has strong opinions and he likes them to be heard. For me he couldn’t have been more right about everything he just said. MLB is its’ own worst enemy these days.

The restrictions it has on media, highlights, and games in this day and age is just ridiculous. A lot of people don’t have cable anymore but paying for the MLB at Bat app is fucking pointless because you have regional blackouts so you can’t even see your favorite teams. It doesn’t make any sense. Then the whole part about the highlights on Twitter. Every time an NBA player farts it’s retweeted everywhere. So why don’t we see that in baseball. NBA teams have 12 guys on the roster and play 82 games. MLB teams have (now) 26 players on the roster and play 162 games. Double in both categories. The potential for a highlight or fun moment to go big on social media should be way more.

It was easy to call the NFL the No Fun League, but they realized where they were fucking up and started to fix it. Now players can have full on parties when they score a touchdown and the fans love it! We won’t get in to the fact that Tim Anderson should be able to chuck his bat when he hits a homer and Amir Garrett should do backflips when he strikes out the side (I love that shit), because that more has to do with old vets vs. young kids. Focusing more on what Bauer said about the cleats. They’re fun, people like them, it gives players personality. We had Players Weekend and that was a fucking atrocity. We had a team in all white vs. a team in all black. You couldn’t even see the team names, logos, or the nicknames of the players. That sucked.

If you looked at soccer 10 years ago in the United States most Americans would say it was boring and lame. Look at soccer now where Atlanta is selling out games on 70,000+. The sport is on a very rapid rise here in the U.S. and is it because they changed the rules of the sport? No. A major factor for me and a lot people I know is that European games are now easy to watch. NBC will show most big games of the Premier League and then give you a wrap up of all the games every weekend. You can always catch all the Champions League matches on TV. Besides that you can always find a Serie A or La Liga here and there. So the question is has baseball now all of a sudden become boring? No. Those idiots just don’t know what they’re doing and think making a reliever pitch to at least 3 guys is what’s needed to be changed.
