Well I think if you were an Atlanta United fan you could see the writing on the wall since last season. Hector “Tito” Villalba has finally been sold to Club Libertad of the Paraguayan League and you could say the move makes sense for all parties involved.
Tito came to Atlanta way back in 2017 as the clubs first ever Designated Player and just like the rest of the team he hit the ground running. The dude plays soccer in the most exciting of ways. Fast, aggressive, and down your throat. Running straight at defenders and saying “I’m gonna dribble past you.” Oh and did he ever. In all the soccer I’ve watched in my life I’ve never seen anyone dribble past people the way Tito has. Not Messi, not Neymar, not Hazard. This guy would get in to spots where you were sure he was gonna lose the ball. Next thing you know he’s on the other side of the defender with the ball at his feet. Shit defied physics.
Then let’s talk about his goals. Tito has a cannon for a leg. a real rocket launcher. He’s one of the guys you don’t wanna stand in front of when he’s loading up. He had the confidence to shoot from anywhere. Trae Young range. and good thing he did because he would make them from “What the fuck” range. Just like his 2017 MLS Goal of the Year. With that goal the legend of Tito “The Lion Tamer” Villalba came to life. Of all his great goals there is one that I really do love. His goal vs. the Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals. Although that goal came in the first leg of the ECF, I knew we were gonna win it all. Maybe saying that is a little cocky but the Red Bulls were our biggest contenders that year and beating them like that, well there was just no way we weren’t gonna win MLS Cup.
So with that we bid farewell to Mr. Villalba and his great hair. I hope only the best for him, and wish he could’ve stayed in Atlanta a bit longer.
Here is a nice video of some of his best moments.
